Government committed to improving conditions of service for teachers – Apaak
The Ministry of Education has restated its determination to strengthen teachers’ conditions of service, recognising their indispensable role in national development and the advancement of educational standards.
At the National Teaching Council’s Ghana Teacher Prize sponsors’ appreciation ceremony on Wednesday, Deputy Minister for Education Dr. Clement Apaak confirmed that systematic negotiations with stakeholders are ongoing. These discussions aim to forge reforms that enhance remuneration, guarantee timely promotions, and consolidate welfare support for teachers across the country.
Dr. Apaak portrayed the profession as the foundation of the education system, emphasising that deliberate policies are being introduced to raise its prestige and appeal. The initiatives, he noted, form part of broader governmental efforts to encourage professional development and institutional stability.
He added that continued dialogue with teacher unions is expected to produce a more coherent and responsive framework for compensation and career progression. Working with the Ghana Education Service and the Ghana TVET Service, the Ministry is standardising promotion procedures and fortifying clear advancement routes at all levels.
These assurances reflect the government’s commitment to building on educational progress while addressing persistent concerns about professional recognition and service conditions, grounded in the conviction that a motivated, well-supported teaching force is vital to sustained improvement in learning outcomes.
