The Ghana Education Service (GES) Director for Asutifi North District in the Ahafo Region has raised serious concerns over a growing teacher shortage affecting schools across the district.
According to Naomi Asantewaa, the district is currently facing a deficit of about 300 teachers, a situation she says is negatively impacting effective teaching and learning in many schools, especially in rural communities.
She made the revelation during a presentation ceremony at Kenyasi where the Member of Parliament for Asutifi North, Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, donated 50 computers to 10 basic schools to help improve ICT education in the district.
While commending the MP for the support, the GES Director stressed that providing computers alone will not fully solve the challenges in the education sector if schools continue to struggle with inadequate teaching staff.
She also appealed to corporate organizations, philanthropists, and stakeholders to support schools with more educational resources to help bridge the digital gap and improve learning outcomes.
The MP, together with district authorities, assured residents of continued investment in education infrastructure and technology to enhance academic performance in the district.
The development has renewed conversations about teacher deployment and the need for urgent interventions to address staffing shortages in some parts of the country.
