Teacher Trainees’ Allowance Has Been Processed – Prez Mahama
President John Dramani Mahama has assured teacher trainees across Ghana that their long-awaited allowances have been processed and payment will begin soon. The announcement comes as relief to thousands of students in Colleges of Education who have been worried over delays in the release of their allowances.
Speaking during his “Resetting Ghana” tour in the Northern Region, President Mahama acknowledged the concerns of trainees and stated that the necessary processes for payment had already been completed.
“I know we have some college of education trainees here. Your allowance has been processed, and soon you will start receiving your teacher trainee allowance,” the President said during the event.
During the visit, the President also toured the Bimbilla E.P. College of Education where he inspected an ongoing three-storey hostel project expected to accommodate about 300 students when completed. The project is expected to help reduce accommodation challenges facing students on campus and improve living conditions for trainees.
The latest assurance from the President has generated excitement among teacher trainees across the country, especially after months of complaints over delayed payments. Many students have been depending on the allowance to support their feeding, transportation, and academic expenses.
Earlier reports also indicated that government had allocated significant funds in the national budget to sustain teacher trainee allowances. According to the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, government allocated GH¢203 million for teacher trainee allowances in the 2025 financial year.
The Students Loan Trust Fund has also recently disbursed arrears owed to teacher trainees for the 2023/2024 academic year, benefiting more than 65,000 students across public Colleges of Education in Ghana.
With the latest announcement by President Mahama, trainees are hopeful that payments will begin soon to ease the financial burden many students are currently facing in the various Colleges of Education nationwide.
