A coalition of newly posted teachers, comprising 2024 graduates from Colleges of Education and universities, has announced plans to hold a press conference to address persistent challenges affecting their professional and financial stability.
Central to their concerns is the delay in issuing Staff Identification (Staff ID) numbers. Many teachers have already commenced teaching and fulfilled all verification requirements but remain without Staff IDs. This situation has prevented their inclusion on the official payroll, leaving them unable to receive the salaries to which they are entitled.
The coalition also highlighted the problem of outstanding salary arrears. Reports indicate that some teachers are owed between twelve and fourteen months of back pay. While regular monthly salaries have recently resumed for others, the arrears continue to place significant financial strain on young educators, many of whom depend solely on their teaching income.
Further complicating matters are inconsistencies in official records, including discrepancies in assumption-of-duty dates, ranks, and related administrative information. These irregularities have contributed to errors in salary calculations and delays in disbursing owed payments.
The press conference is scheduled for Monday, 5th January 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Pekan Hotel, East Legon, near the Accra College of Education, behind the Mayama Residence. Media houses have been invited to ensure wide coverage and public awareness of the issues affecting newly recruited teachers.
Through this engagement, the coalition seeks clear timelines and firm commitments from relevant authorities, particularly the Ghana Education Service and affiliated institutions. The group emphasizes that prompt resolution of these issues is critical to restoring confidence among new teachers and safeguarding the integrity of the teaching profession.
