GNAT To Reduce Loan Interest Rates and Increase Loan Thresholds.

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has announced significant changes to its loan scheme, aiming to make borrowing more affordable and accessible for its members.

These reforms are part of GNAT's ongoing efforts to strengthen the welfare of teachers and provide practical solutions to their financial challenges.

The association has reduced the loan interest rate to 14 percent, expected to decrease the cost of borrowing and make repayment easier for members. This adjustment will enable teachers to benefit from lower monthly payments, giving them more room to manage other financial responsibilities. GNAT believes this change will enhance the overall accessibility and usefulness of its loan scheme.

In addition to the interest rate reduction, GNAT has approved increases in the maximum loan amounts across all major categories. The Personal Loan ceiling will rise from GH¢40,000 to GH¢50,000, providing members with more flexibility to handle personal financial obligations. The Investment Capital Loan, aimed at supporting members who wish to start or expand income-generating activities, will increase from GH¢50,000 to GH¢60,000, giving teachers stronger backing for entrepreneurial initiatives.

The Habitat Loan, which helps members with housing-related projects, will increase from GH¢60,000 to GH¢70,000, allowing teachers to build, renovate, or complete their homes with greater financial support. The Vehicle Loan will see the largest increase, rising from GH¢70,000 to GH¢100,000, which will help teachers acquire reliable means of transportation, especially those who travel long distances to their schools.

GNAT emphasizes that these reforms reflect its ongoing commitment to improving the welfare of teachers. Members are advised to follow official GNAT communications for details on eligibility, application procedures, and the timeline for the implementation of the revised loan scheme. These measures are expected to provide meaningful financial relief and support the continued well-being of GNAT members across the country.
